Stained Clothing for Prayer and Learning

B”H I am married and guard my eyes, but sometimes, when my wife is niddah I have a nocturnal pollution. Then after the underwear is washed, stains remain on it. I would like to know if I can use the underwear, after going through the washing machine and say dibre kedusha while wearing those trousers. I looked for the halacha but couldn’t find it.

My second question is this: I usually fast every Friday, beli neder, and besides my wife no one knows about it. I am now 38 yrs old and I do it because it is recommended by the Shulchan Aruch (O. C. 249:3, since I am sephardic I know that I can enter Shabbat fasting)and also strongly recommended by the Pele Yoets. I fast mainly to atone for my averot, I am a baal teshuba for almost 20 yrs and also to ask of Hashem for banim talmide Chachamim, I have two boys and a girl, B”H. I want to know if I should state those intentions (or only one at time) before or after the fast, or maybe I should not say anything. Chodesh tov and Tizke le mitsvot. I will appreciate you sending me the mar-eh mekomot.

Answer:

1) According to the principle halachah, there is no problem of davening and praying with the stained underwear. See Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 76:4; Magen Avraham, and Maamar Mordechai 76:4. Even according to Chayei Adam (1:3), who is more stringent concerning semen on clothing, his stringency would not apply after the garment has been washed.

2) Concerning fasting, the place for additing the prayers would be in the Shemoneh Esrei of Minchah on Thursday, when you accept the fast upon yourself (at the end of the prayer), and in the Minchah prayer of Friday, together with the aneinu prayer (in Shome’a Tefillah — for a lengthier request, at the end of the prayer).
