Does a Pidyon Haben must be perform exactly on the 31st day from Birth? Meaning, can it be postponed for a more accomodating date, say 2 or 3 days later?
Answer:
The pidyon haben must be performed specifically on the 31st day, and it should not be postponed.
Sources: According to a number of authorities, if one postpones a pidyon haben, one transgresses a positive mitzvah for each day of postponement. See Orchos Chaim (Maharsham, no. 568) and Levush (551:17). Although Minchas Chinuch (392) writes that one does not trasgress a mitzvah, he concedes that that the general principle of not delaying mitzvos applies, which is also sufficient reason to avoid delaying the mitzvah for a later time.
