Jeremiah 31:35 — The Permanent Nation of Israel

I just opened Jeremiah 31:35 and I am just shocked. “If this fixed order departs from before me, declares the LORD,
then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before me forever.”

It means that if there would be no YHWH there would be no nation of Israel. Is this true?

Answer:

The interpretation of the verse is that if “this order,” meaning the order of the sun and the moon and the stars, should cease, then “shall the offspring of Israel cease.” The intention is that just as the order of the sun and the constellations is fixed, and will never cease, so the nation of Israel is fixed in the world, and shall never fail. This has been borne out emphatically by history: in spite of the many enemies that have risen against the Jewish People, and in spite of their lengthy exile at the hands of their enemies, the nation has survived — and so it shall!
