Going to the Kotel on Shabbos (Surveillance Cameras)

Is it a problem to go to the Kotel on Shabbos since they put the new cameras clicking evertime we pass by?

Answer:

This question has been discussed by many halachic authorities, as we have mentioned in a previous post in Hebrew. Although some are stringent, the majority of authorities are lenient concerning the question, and one may rely on these poskim in going to the Kotel on Shabbos.

For the previous post (Hebrew) on this matter, please see here.

  1. What is the halachic in an apt. building?
Can a neighbor say I go by the stringent authorities, so turn off the security camera before Shabbos?

    1. No, if the ordinary manner for the area and for the type of building is to have the cameras operating 24/7, a neighbor cannot make the building turn off the cameras because of his personal stringency. If there is no “custom” for the area, the matter will depend on the agreement of most homeowners in the building. It is possible that because most authorities are lenient, even a minority will be able to veto the decision, and this depends on further circumstances.
