Why is it not allowed to eat a whole hard boiled egg without first slicing it? Explanation woiuld be appreciated.
Answer:
I am not aware of this prohibition. It is permitted to bite off pieces from a whole egg and eat them. Placing the entire egg in one’s mouth is not prohibited, but hardly recommended, on technical grounds.
If you know of a source for such a prohibition, please inform us.
Sources: See Yoma 80b, which states that a person is able to swallow a whole (soft-boiled) egg in one go. This does not mean that it is recommended practice, but only that it is feasable. [The statement is used in determining the volume of various shiurim.]
