Mosaic Law

What is the Mosaic law?

Answer:

The Mosaic law is the law of the Book of Moses, meaning the Torah (Pentateuch), which was transmitted by Moses.

The Book of the Law — the Torah, and not only the Ten Commandments (as some mistakenly believe) — includes many legal principles and obligations, which are carried out, according to the interpretation of the Sages, by Orthodox Jews.

In addition to the Mosaic Law, there are also many rabbinic enactments, which were instituted by the Sages (mainly) as safeguards to the Law. These enactments are known as Rabbinic Law, in contrast with the Torah’s Mosaic Law.
