Avraham’s Last Name

Father Abraham had a last name. I believed it meant “of G-d”.
What was Abraham’s last name other than Ben or Bar-something?

Answer:

Abraham is known as Avraham Avinu (Abraham our forefather) and also as Avraham Ha’Ivri which literally means “from the other side”. This name has a few explanations. 1. He was a descendent of Eiver. 2. It describes the place where he came from (the other side of the river). 3. This name comes to describe Avraham’s uniqueness, as he stood on one side (believing in G-d), while the rest of the world stood on the other side (worshiping idols.)

Though these names follow his first name they are not considered Avraham’s last name, for the concept of last names is found only much later in history.
