Shaving for Engagement

if one is getting engaged in the sefira period may he shave for the occasion?

Answer:

First of all, mazal tov on the event of the engagement. May you find much joy in your future life, and may you build a true house of Israel, in the spirit of holiness and purity.

Although it is permitted to get engaged in the sefirah period, this is not considered a Yom-Tov or an occasion such as a bris, for which it is permitted to shave. If remaining unshaven would cause embarrassment, there is room to permit shaving, but because the common custom is to remain unshaven during the sefirah period, the ‘unshaven look’ is not embarrassing at this time, and therefore one should not shave.
