Whiskey is chametz gamur, absolute chametz, and therefore one must ensure that the whiskey one purchases was not in the possession of a Jew (and not sold in mechiras chametz) over Pesach. Bottles of whiskey can remain in storage for a lengthy time, so when buying from a non-religious Jew one should be wary of this issue even a lengthy period after Pesach.
