If someone buys a new suit or shirt, etc, and a Shabbos precedes a yom tov by a few days, should he wear the new suit on shabbos, or wait for the yom tov?

Answer:

If the new suit was bought in honor of Yom Tov, which is a special time of simcha, and one’s regular Shabbos clothes are still in decent condition, it would be fine to wait for Yom Tov to wear the new clothes, this being part of the joy of Yom Tov. This is true in particular for new women’s clothing, since a woman’s joy on Yom Tov is in new clothers, whereas a man’s is (more) in his food.
