Taanis Dibbur

can you explain what does Tanit Hadibor mean?

Answer:

Taanis Dibbur means a “fast of speech.” Rather than the conventional fast, where a person abstains from eating and drinking, a person abstains from speaking. The principle is the same as a regular fast: A person sacrifices something of himself (his speech) for the sake of purifying himself, and for procuring atonement. The Mishnah Berurah (571) recommends this type of “fast,” and in Shemiras Halashon (1:2) he writes that abstaining from idle and forbidden speech is more potent even than abstention from food (because this type of fast doesn’t damage a person’s body).
