Na-Nach-Nachman

Is being a Na Nach/Nachman bad, a breslov chasid, I heard people saying that it is chilul Hashem. Thanks.

Answer:

I don’t know the ways of the group well enough to give a full answer.

I don’t think it is necessarily “bad,” and if a person is attracted to the emotional expressions of Breslov, including such elements as seclusion and contemplation, this is surely fine.

However, there is truth in the assertion that public displays of “odd” behavior can be a chillul Hashem, and there is room to question the practice of dancing on cars or jumping in the street. Certainly, not all Breslov chassidim do this, and you can take on the practices that you identify with and that bring you closer to Hashem, without embracing the sometimes strange practices associated with the Na-Nach group.

In general, there are usually two sides to a coin, and most ideologies or sects have good and bad sides, obviously in varying degrees and proportions. Take the positive, and avoid the negative!
