New Sheitel in Three Weeks

Can a new shaitel be cut during the 3 weeks, and 9 days? Thanks

Answer:

Having a sheitel washed and styled, and certainly cut, is equivalent to washing clothes, which may not be done in the Nine Days. For a new sheitel, it can be compared to preparing new clothes, which is forbidden in the Nine Days (Shulchan Aruch 551:7-8).

For the Three Weeks, it is permitted to have the sheitel cut. A new sheitel should not be worn for the first time in the Three Weeks, to avoid making the Shehecheyanu blessing, but it can be worn on Shabbos.

Sources:

Concerning styling/cutting a sheitel in the Nine Days, see Piskei Teshuvos (551), quoting from present-day authorities.

Concerning the Shehecheyanu blessing, it is noteworthy that some authorities (such as the Vilna Gaon and the Taz) are lenient concerning the practice, and the Mishnah Berurah (551:98) therefore rules that one may be lenient on Shabbos.
