Leaving Devar Torah Sheet Uncovered

I’ve heard that it’s issur to leave a sefer Torah you’re studying, like a Gemara, uncovered, such as when you’re going to the toilet (rather the proper thing to do is to leave a bookmark, cover, and open upon your return).

Does this din extend as far as sheets of Torah material, however?

For example, I receive a Halacha Yomit by email every day.

I often don’t get a change to read it before I go out for the office.

Is it therefore necessary to cover it somehow, such as putting it into a bookcase, or even ‘cis b’toch cish’ putting it inside a folder inside a book-case, or is it permissible to leave it lying on the desk until I return home?

Answer:

The idea of not leaving a sefer open is that leaving the sefer open while leaving is disrespectful to the divrei torah in the sefer.

This does not apply to a sheet of Torah material, for which there is no disrespect in leaving the sheet uncovered. The way of books is to be closed while nobody is learning from them, whereas the way of sheets is to be uncovered the whole time. Because there is no show of disrespect in leaving the sheet uncovered, there is no need to cover it when leaving.
