Buying Clothes with Maaser Money

Is my wife allowed to buy clothing which the proceeds are going to tzedaka with maaser kesafim? Does it make a difference if she was going to buy the clothing with regular money?

Answer:

Even if the proceeds go to charity, one cannot pay for the clothing with maaser money. The reason for this is that one would anyway buy the clothing, and it cannot therefore be seen as a contribution to charity, but rather as a purchase of clothing. However, if the clothing can be purchased for a cheaper price, the difference can be paid with maaser money.
