The Commentary of the Meiri

can you tell me more about the author of Beit Habichera Rav Menachem Meiri? Were his seforim put aside? Are his hashkafos different? Are there issues that are paskened based on his seforim?
Thank you

Answer:

I do not know much biographical material about the Meiri. This can probably be researched in historical/academic research.

One of the important doctrines discussed by the Meiri is the question of halachos that are stated in the Gemara concerning non-Jews. The Meiri writes time and again that these halachos do not apply to “non-Jews of modern times.” There is much discussion over whether this was written to placate the censor, or whether the Meiri meant it.

His commentary is not a ‘leading commentary’ in terms of halachic ruling, but it is quoted by halachic decisors as support for a particular halachic ruling. Particularly where other medieval commentaries are silent, his ruling can have decisive weight.
