I am a trustee for a family charitable trust. In the past we have been giving a sum of money to two individual charities, both carrying out the same work but in different geographical areas. They have now amalgamated. Should we now being giving the combined amount to the amalgamated charity?

There is no ‘obligation’ involved, but it appears fair that it should receive the combined amount (though it is possible that because they have merged, the organization will save costs, and this can be taken into account).
