Opening Knot on Shabbos

If a person ties a knot (with intentions to open it that day) but it ends up staying tied until the next shabbos (7 days or longer), is it permitted to open it?

Thank You

Answer:

Yes. If a simple knot was tied with the intention to open it on the same day, it is not a kesher kayama (a fixed/permanent knot) even if it was subsequently left for a number of days, and it is permitted to open it on Shabbos.

The knot is defined by the type of knot involved, and by the intention at the time of tying, and not by the fact that it was left tied for a short or long time.
