Washing Undergarments on Chol Hamo’ed

Can an adult wash undergarments like t-shirts or underwear, socks and pajamas on chol hamoed? These clothing need to be washed continuously due to constant wear and they do soil more readily? Can someone buy pajamas on chol hamoed that he’ll receive by mail after succos?

Answer:

Undergarments can be washed, if there is a need for them, during chol hamo’ed. This is because it is normal for them to become soiled quickly and for people to change them daily.

The same applies to kitchen towels and to tablecloths, but less to pajamas, which are generally not washed frequently.

If there is no special need, one should not make a purchase of pajamas on Chol Hamo’ed, and this should be deferred until after Yom Tov, unless there is a special sale price or there is an immediate need.
