More than Two Witnesses for Kesubah

Friend is getting married and wants to know if he can have more than two witnesses for his ketubah. He explains that he wants more people to enjoy the honor.

Answer:

There is no halachic problem in appointing more than two witnesses, and having them sign on the kesubah. The Rosh (responsa, 35:1) mentions that this used to be the custom, which was done for the purpose of honoring invitees.

However, the universal custom today is to appoint two witnesses alone, and it is better not to deviate from this — though there is no prohibition in doing so.

Of course, the kashrus of all the witnesses must be ensured (though see Rosh, loc. cit.).
