Ha-Gomel for Separate Events

Someone that is chayiv to bentch ha-gomel on 2 separate things, l’maseh we make only one bracha. However if the person when making the bracha only had one of the 2 things in mind that he had to bentch ha-gomel for, may he say the bracha again and have kavanah for the other thing that he had to bentch on?

Answer:

No, a second berachah should not be made.

Birchas Hagomel is a general blessing of giving thanks, and there is no need to actually think of the event as one makes the berachah.

It is also important to note that Birkas Hagomel is not a full obligation (see Magen Avraham 119; Mishnah Berurah 225:9), so that each event does not “obligate” a blessing, and it stands to reason that one blessing suffices.
