Missed Time of Keriyas Shema

If someone missed krias shema on time. Should the person still say krias shema even though it’s not “on time”? Does he still get the mitzvah of krias shema, but is he just lacking the “on tme’ element? Are there 2 components to the mitzvah of krias shema, the saying and the on time element?

Answer:

If the time of keriyas shema is missed, the Mishnah writes that one cannot make up the actual mitzvah of reading the shema, but that the reading of the shema should be made up, which enables the recitation of the berachos of the shema.

The time element is not an added component, but defines when the mitzvah of keriyas shema must be fulfilled.

Best wishes.
