Commemorating Grandparent’s Yahrzeit

Can the granchildren celebrate the yarzheit of thei grandparents? If yes, can you show the halacha that allows that practice?

Answer:

Some have the custom of commemorate a grandparent’s yahrzeit (by fasting, saying kaddish, praying as shaliach tzibbur, lighting candles, and so on), but only when the grandparent does not have any children alive to commemorate the day.

See Minchas Cohen, laws of yahrzeit no. 14, citing from the Mateh Efraim; see also Darchei Moshe, Yoreh De’ah 376, and Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De’ah 240, and commentaries.
