Tazria 106#

This week’s article deals with the laws of lashon hara, and in particular with the tension between the prohibition on the one hand, and the halachic and moral obligation to speak on the other. This tension often arises in connection with investigations into shidduchim, and in connection to informing relevant authorities of illegal or dangerous actions. The balance between prohibition and mitzvah is often delicate, and it is therefore important to study the laws of lashon hara in this context. The current article will introduce the basic principles of lashon hara, whereas next week’s will deal with particular issues that commonly arise.
This week’s Q & A will deal with the question of wine touched and food cooked by non-observant Jews.
