I am a slow davener and I am saying Kaddish for my brother in law. Am I allowed to start Pesukei D’Zimra before the Ba’al Tefilla and interrupt to say Kaddish?
Answer:
It is permitted to interrupt Pesukei de-Zimra for reciting Kaddish (see sources in Yalkut Yosef on Pesukei de-Zimra 48, note 12).
However, if one knows that this will be the circumstance, it is preferable to begin the Pesukei de-Zimra with Hodu (as minhag Sefard, which is the principle ruling cited by the Tur), and to day Baruch She’amar only before “Yehi Kevod.”
