Appointments in Husband’s Name

The doctor I am using in the hospital is private. The health fund covers 4 visits a year. My husband also has 4 visits that can be used. The hospital clinic would let us put the appointments under my husband’s name so we can get refunded for them when I finish my 4. This whole situation is really about us as a unit though right now they have been focusing on me, but that could change if I keep having issues. Am I allowed to have the clinic put four of my appointments under my husband’s name?

Thank you

Answer:

This is a delicate question.

In principle, it is not permitted to have your own visits written in your husband’s name, unless of course the health fund gives permission to do so. Doing so without permission, and under the assumption that the health fund does not permit doing this, will constitue a concern of theft from the health fund.

In this case the question is whether the fact that your are coming as a “unit” will permit your writing the visits in your husband’s name.

If the visits would be “joint visits,” and if attention would also be given to your husband, there would of course be greater scope for leniency. As it is, and without knowing the details more intimately, I find it difficult to be lenient in the matter.

Best wishes and much success.
