Throwing Away Stub of Havdalah Candle

Is one permitted to throw away the remaining “stub” of a havdalah candle since borei me’orei ha’aish was said on it? Or should it be put in genizah?

Answer:

The berachah of me’orei ha-eish is not a formal mitzvah, but only a birkas ha-shevach. Therefore, there is no special kedushah on the candle (not even of chefzei mitzvah). In addition, the blessing is not made on the candle, but rather on the flame.

Therefore, the stub can be discarded without special concern.
