Hinting to Non-Jew on Shabbos

Many times people will be makil to get a goy to do a malacha (perhaps turning on a light or the A/C) b’derech remez since in that particular situation there is no heter b’amira. However even if a person will only remez to the goy (or perhaps even less than a remez) what about the issue of haneh (SA OC Siman 276.) Perhaps the answer is pashut that ain hachi nami, the person shouldn’t be m’ramez to the goy or bring him to the house in order that he should on his own do something in order to avoid the issue of haneh.

Answer:

Indeed, even when a person only hints at a melachah, it remains forbidden to derive benefit from the melachah of a non-Jew on Shabbos.

It is only permitted to hint to a non-Jew where the issue of deriving benefit from the melachah does not arise, for instance for a melachah that does not involve any halachic benefit, such as making the light brighter (there was already enough light to see), or turning out the light.

See Shulchan Aruch and Mishnah Berurah 307.
