Declaration of Meshulachim

Do people who are collecting tzedaka and taking some of it for themselves have to declare how much tzedaka they are taking for themselves to each person they collect from? In other words, do the meshulachim have to tell you not only what they are collecting for but also that they are taking a percentage for themselves?

Answer:

Because it is normal practice for a meshulach to take something for himself, and there is therefore no ‘deception’ involved, there is no obligation on a meshulach to declare his share in the donations.

Of course, the person making the donation can always ask, but there is no obligation to volunteer the information.

Best wishes.

    1. Certainly. When asked they cannot lie about the matter – though they can try to “get out of it” if they want.
