Drinking Human Milk

In says in Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah Siman 81 SIf 7 that it’s muter to drink chalav isha as long as it’s “pirush” from the body However for a gadol to nurse from a woman is like nursing from a “sheretz” and is ossur. The question is if that which Shulchan Aruch says it’s muter if the milk is already extracted from the body is this lichatchila and even for a healthy person? Or only for a sick person? Seemingly many poskim understand this is even lichatchila (See Shach Sif-Katan 17 and what the Caf HaChaim brings in Siman 81 Sif-Katan 47)

However the Pri Megadim in Sifsei Das Sif-Katan 17 seems to say that it’s muter however only for a choleh (sick person — even a choleh shain bo sacana — one that is not in a dangerous situation in terms of their health.)

So what’s p’shat in the Pri Megadim that he seems to be arguing on all the poskim that says it’s even lichatchila?

Answer:

As you rightly point out, the Shach writes that it is permitted to drink a woman’s milk after it is placed in a separate container, and all later poskim cite his opinion.

The Pri Megadim does not argue on this ruling, and only points out that there is room to argue on a proof.

In terms of practice, however, he does not dispute the permissiveness of drinking the milk.

Best wishes.
