Opening Oven Door and Activating Light

Anytime we open our oven (when the oven is on) a light goes on “Close Door” are we allowed to have a gentile open this door to remove our food on Shabbos? Is there any heter for a Jew to open the door (with an shinui, knowing that the owner does not care at all that the “close door” message goes on)?

thanks

Answer:

There is no problem in asking a non-Jew to do it. You cannot open the door by yourself.

Sources:

See Terumas Hadeshen 66 and Rema (end of 253) and Mishnah Berurah 99.

However, because there is a concrete prohibition of closing an electric circuit on Shabbos (some are even concerned for a Torah prohibition), it will not be permitted for you to do this on your own.

Best wishes.
