Sensitivity to Wheat

Question:

Dear Rabbi,

I am diabetic, and do not eat wheat during the week for health reasons.

I have become so sensitive to wheat that when I eat it on Shabbos, I get ill.

What should I do about eating bread on Shabbos and matzah on Pesach?

Thank you,

Answer:

You can use bread and matzos that are made of other grains, such as spelt.

This is the best option if you are not sensitive to it.

Best wishes and good luck.

  1. You should know that spelt is very close to wheat and at times the issues that come from wheat are also found with spelt -as it was in my case. Therefore I eat only oat challah on Shabbos and only oat matzah on Pesach
