Cooking on Sukkos

I wanted to know: Can can you cook on Sukkot?

Answer:

By contrast with Shabbos, it is permitted to cook on Yom Tov, including Sukkos (provided it is not Shabbos).

The reason for this is that labors related to preparation of food (ochel nefesh) are not forbidden on Yom Tov.

However, it is forbidden to kindle a new fire on Yom Tov, and if a fire is to be lit, this must be done by transferring a flame from an already existing fire.

A convenient option is to leave a “blech” (covering) over the gas burners that can be used for cooking, setting the electric stove to go on automatically, or lighting a gas burner by transferring the flame from an existing flame. Once on, it is forbidden to put the flame out.

Best wishes.
