Carrying on Chol Ha-Mo’ed

Is there any issue of carrying on Chol HaMoed “stam” without any reason. Are there any poskim that speak about this?

Answer:

The custom is not to be careful for this, meaning that there is no prohibition on carrying, even for no reason.

The Shemiras Shabbos explains that carrying was not prohibited by the Sages on Chol Ha-Mo’ed, even where there is no purpose for it (68:26). Although the Chazon Ish is cited as being stringent for this, the lenient approach emerges from the Meiri (Mo’ed Kattan 18b), and Rav Moshe Sternbuch (Mo’adim U-Zemanim Vol. 4, no. 298) explains that carrying does not involve any actual “labor” and therefore it is not prohibited on Chol Ha-Mo’ed (see also Shevet Ha-Levi Vol. 6, no. 68).
Best wishes.
