Non-Jewish Music

Is it permissible to listen to non Jewish music if the lyrics are clean? I would like to know specifically on divrei Maran chacham ovadia yosef. Also you can list other poskim.

Answer:

It is permitted to listen to “clean” non-Jewish music.

Rav Ovadya even writes that it is permitted to use non-Jewish music as part of a prayer service in shul.

However, one should generally be suspicious of non-Jewish music, and in particular that of popular culture.

Best wishes.

Sources:

See Maaseh Rokeach Tefillah 8:11 who writes that non-Jewish music can involve a prohibition of be-chukoseihem – but this will apply specifically if a person is seeking to adopt non-Jewish culture.
