Comparison Between Islam Christianity and Judaism

To any rabbis

I actually got two questions I would like to ask.

1)Which religion is actually closer to Judaism, Islam or Christianity?

2)Is Christianity the only religion so far, came from Judaism?

I know that Christianity and Islam both come from Judaism ( If I am correct).

I would like to know historically which is actually closer to Judaism.

I know both Islam and Christianity are close to Judaism, which is the closer to Judaism.

Please reply whenever you can.

Answer:

1) Islam has traditionally been considered closer to Judaism, because it does not have pagan origins, and it adheres to a stricter form of Monotheism than Christianity, making it closer to Judaism.

2) Both Christianity and Islam emerged from Judaism, but the founders of Christianity were actually Jews, whereas the founders of Islam were not Jews.

Both Christianity and Islam regard the Bible as being a sacred text, but Christianity perhaps gives it a higher status than Islam.

Christianity is a less “legal” religion, and involves a belief system rather than laws, which sets it very must aside from Judaism. Islam, by contrast, is an all-encompassing religion similar to Judaism.

The messianic belief is common to Christianity and to Judaism, whereas in Islam the messianic belief is very different.

In terms of holidays there is some correlation between Judaism and Christianity, and less so concerning Islam; in terms of the calendar Islam counts by the moon, Christianity by the sun, and Judaism by a moon-bases system that synchronizes with the solar calendar.

There are others points, but the above are perhaps the main ones.

Best wishes.

  1. I would like to thank you for answering my questions on the comparison between the three Abrahamic traditions.

I can traditionally see that Islam is closer to Judaism because the monotheism is the same.

But in some certain degree, Christianity wouldn’t be consider closer to Judaism because the monotheism is different, which is a fact.

First off and I want to acknowledge, all three religions are close.

But if I am also correct and I mean historically speaking, Christianity in some degree is closer to Judaism then Islam closer to Judaism.

Even though Christianity monotheism is different. But there are practices that Jews and Christians do.

Like both have the bread and wine.
Both believe the Torah to be inspired.

Because Christianity did start as a Jewish movement, and it did come from Judaism after all.

But I am not saying Islam is not consider closer to Judaism than Christianity closer to Judaism.

In some degree, I would agree with you that Islam is consider closer to Judaism as well because of the monotheism and practices are similar.

    Both have religions laws.
    Both have the same monotheism.
    Both practice circumcision.

Last thing, I am not trying to argue with you, if you read this message thinking I am arguing I am not arguing.

Ok got these questions I would like to ask. I could find on the computer but the computer information is not always correct.

1)What is the similarities between Judaism and Christianity?

2)What is the key difference between Judaism and Christianity?

3)What is the key different between Judaism and Islam?

You could give me 2-3 similarities and difference between the three faiths. All you could want to, do all the similarities between the three faiths and differences.

If you are not able to answer that is absolutely fine.

If you can answer please take your time.

    Yours sincerely

    1. 1) Belief in One God (though there’s the problem of the Trinity); belief in afterlife; belief in Messiah.
      2) Christianity does not have a law, and Judaism does; Christianity believes the Messiah has come, and Judaism doesn’t; Christianity is more universalist than Judaism.
      3) Belief in Muhammad as prophet; different legal principles in all areas; vision of all people converting to the religion (Judaism has no such vision)
      Best wishes.

  2. To Rabbi Yehoshua Preffer.

First thank you for answering me. Also I did want to say that you are a very smart rabbi. You seem to know a lot of stuff, and plus your very straight forward.

Anyways I did want to ask these questions.

1)Why is conversion to Judaism is not easy?

2)How comes Jews do not seek converts like Islam and Christianity?

3)In mainstream Judaism, can other religions regardless what they belief, go in to heaven?

4)Would Jews consider a person Jewish, if they practice other Dharmic religions like, Buddhism or Hinduism?

5)When a person convert to Judaism, do they charge you when you reach a certain age?

6)Do Orthodox Jews view liberal Jews as real Jews? I am curious.

I am asking because the synagogue I go to, when a person reaches a certain age, they would have to pay. Just want to know the Orthodox Judaism.

If you can’t answer all of them, that is fine.

    Take care

    1. 1. Conversion is hard because of the desire to ensure that a convert is really sincere about wanting to join the religion, and ready to make the commitments involved.
      2. We believe that there is room in the world for Jews and for non-Jews, and that a non-Jew can fulfill his calling in the world as a non-Jew, and doesn’t need to convert to Judaism in order to be “saved” or for any other purpose.
      3. Judaism respects other monotheistic religions, and their members can certainly “go to heaven;” Judaism does not respect idolatrous religions.
      4. No – though if he was born a Jew, he remains a Jew.
      5. There is no monetary charge.
      6. Yes; they are “real” Jews, but their practice, if divergent from halachah (Torah law), is seen by Orthodoxy as skewed.
      Best wishes.
