I have a set of dishes that are dairy, and have not been used in over four years.
The were used a long time ago for Dairy. These are china dishes with a glaze over them.
Can I convert them to use instead for meat.
Nathan.
Answer:
If the dishes have become dairy, i.e. they were used for hot dairy foods, they should not be used for meaty.
This is for two reasons:
1. It is not possible to kasher china dishes, because they are considered "cheres" (though there is room to debate the status of modern glazed china dishes).
2. There is a custom not to convert dairy dishes to meaty.
Even after the passage of time, which can be a factor in kashering dishes, the dishes should therefore not be used for meaty foods.
Best wishes.
