Kashering for Pesach

Question:

1. Can one kasher a microwave for Pesach? What about the glass plate and the plastic circle it rolls on?
2. Does one have to cover a counter and sink with aluminum foil if one cleans them well?

Thank you very much.

Answer:

1. In principle the regular principles for kashering microwaves will apply – you should heat up a cup of water for approximately 15 minutes. The glass plate that comes into direct contact with foods should be kashered by means of hagalah. The plastic underneath doesn’t need anything since it generally doesn’t come into contact with food.

2. The counter (most types) and sink can be kashered by pouring boiling water on them. If this is not done they should be covered.

Best wishes.
