Tefillin All Day on Rosh Chodesh

If after Shachris (wearing Rashi Tefillin) one lays Rabbenu Tam Tefillin and after removing R.T. Tefillin, he wants to re-lay Rashi Tefillin, can he do that? How much time must elapse between R.T. Tefillin and Rashi Tefillin. What about after Musaf of Rosh Chodesh?

Answer:

One can certainly put back Rashi Tefillin after removing the R. Tam.

After Mussaf on Rosh Chodesh there is a dispute among different opinions about putting Tefilling back on (see Rama Mi-Fano 108; Yecheveh Daas 6:6; Yabia Omer 3:53). Both ways are acceptable.

This question is of only relevant for people who wear Tefillin the whole day in general. Those who don't wear Tefillin the whole day should not do so on Rosh Chodesh.

Best wishes.

  1. "This question is only relevant for people who wear Tefillin the whole day in general. Those who don’t wear Tefillin the whole day should not do so on Rosh Chodesh."

I do not wear tefillin the whole day. However, I am makpid to repeat krias Shema (with tefillin) after the whole davening is over, due to the fact that during davening I say it very quickly in order to catch up to the minyan for SE. May I replace my Rashi tefillin after davening Mussaf on Rosh Chodesh and repeat Shema with them on?

  2. What about someone who is makpid to learn every day while wearing tefillin (not to wear the whole day)? Can he put them back on after Mussaf to learn with them, as it is brought in MB that anshei maaseh learn while wearing tefillin.

    1. yes you can put them on again, with a bracha.

  3. Davening Mussaf is a hesach hadaas?
But he had in mind to put it back again?

    1. IF you had in mind when you took them off to put them back on again then you would not make another bracha. see M:B 25-60.
