Veset Kavua Within 24 Months

If a woman is no longer nursing her child but she is still within the 24 months of giving birth, can she establish a veset kavuah if she detects a consistent pattern?

Answer:

Because women in general return to their regular pattern well before the 24 month period is up, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach ruled that this must be considered a keviut veset lechumra.

Meaning, if a regular pattern is seen during this time, it should be related to as a veset kavua for all purposes of stringency. The same will be true of the onah beinonit that is fixed at this time.

However, this will not be true for purposes of leniency, for which the keviut is required after the 24 months are up.

See Nishmas Avraham 189:33.

Best wishes.
