Father Hugging Daughter

Is it OK for a mother to fully hug her teenage son? And likewise a father to fully hug his teenage daughter? If so, why isn’t there a problem as each would be feeling certain areas that make it very awkward?
Thanks.

Answer:

Both ways are fine.

The reason for this is that between a mother and son or father and daughter we assume that there is no “sexual” connotation, and the hug is rather an expression of paternal / maternal love. There is therefore no concern for “awkwardness” in this.

Best wishes.

  1. I would suggest, that even though there is no prohibition against giving/receiving a hug to/from a parent if there is no sexual connotation, however due to the fact that recipient may be uncomfortable with this, then the hug should be limited to areas of the body that are more “neutral”.
