Use of Tzedaka Funds

Shalom,

I couldn’t afford therapy so I asked around and found someone who is willing to help me every month or when I have a debt by a therapist. (It happens to be, the person who is sponsoring me knows my therapist which is why I feel the need to ask a shaila.)

I am working on many things with the therapist to help me manage with various parts of everyday life.

My question:

Can I use the money I am getting from a sponsor to go towards other therapy (which will also help ME) even though it’s not the therapist my sponsor knows?

One example:

I have a son who is extremely hard to deal with. I am suppose to be taking a series of sessions from his therapist to help me and my wife understand him.

Or If I see my therapist can’t help me in one area, may I use the money to go to another therapist as well? Or do I need to assume the sponsor is only helping because they know the therapist? I am assuming they would have sponsored me anyways and it just happened to be they know the therapist since they agreed to sponsoring me before they knew who my therapist was. But this was some years ago.
Thanks

Answer:

There seems to be no reason to assume the sponsor would limit his help to a therapist he knows. He could have easily stipulated such, which he did not. It seems he is just trying to help you out. However if this could be easily clarified by asking him, that would seem to be the right thing to do.
