Bible Question

Anyone can ask any question concerning the laws of the Torah?

Genesis 9:4
But, flesh with its soul, its blood, you shall not eat. (The prohibition of consuming the flesh with its life blood in it)
– There are no other ways to translate this law from Hebrew to other languages?
Could you write down the other translations to me?

Best Wishes

Answer:

Yes, anyone is welcome to ask!

The Torah contains a dual tradition of the Written and Oral law. Along with the Written Law, at Sinai God gave with it the Oral Law which contains complete explanation of all the verses in the Written law. The explanation for this verse is recorded in Tractate Sanhedrin folio 59a of the Babylonian Talmud. While the Talmud was organized and written down in Babylonia, it in fact contains the teachings of the Oral Law received at SInai, for which we have a direct unbroken chain of transmission from generation to generation.

The Talmud there explains that the intent of this verse is to prohibit eating from an animal’s flesh or blood which was removed from it while it is still alive. This then is the intent of this verse and there is no real room for variant explanations.
