The seforim extol the importance of an avel davening for the amud on Motzai Shabbos. Rav Shlomo Zalman even said that every avel should make an effort to have is owm amud on MOtzai Shabbos. It is the only time that it overrides Brov Am Hadras melech
Does the same apply to Motzai Yom Tov??
Looking forward to your answer.
Thanks so much
No, this does not apply to Motzai Yom Tov.
The Rama in Yoreh Deah 376:4 quotes the minhag to daven for the amud on Motzai Shabbos because this is the time the neshamos return to Gehinom. On Shabbos the fires of Gehinom cease. The Rama only mentions this custom for Motzai Shabbos, no mention of Motzai Yom Tov is made.
Various sources indicate that in fact the special respite from the fires of Gehinom does not apply to Yom Yov. See Shu”t Baalei Tosfos [siman10], Mordechai , Pesachim [37a in shas vilna], Tosfos, Beitzah 33b s”v ki, Birkei Yosef O:C 419
