Non Jewish Friend and Cooking

I work with a non Jew as my co-teacher in a secular school. She invited me over and is so sweet and open to learning how to cook a kosher meal but in “her” house and her kitchen. How I can I do so in these circumstances? Do I bring my own pot or pan and it’s okay to use her stove? What are the guidelines here?

Answer:

If the food will be eaten by yourself or other Jews kosher guidelines must be kept. This includes using your own pots and vessels and only kosher certified ingredients. In addition the fire must be lit and the food placed on the fire by a Jew.

Using her stove top range should not be a problem, if it is clean. Her oven, microwave, or toaster should not be used.

In general going to your non Jewish friends house for a cooking date may not be advisable. This would depend on the circumstances, and a Rabbinic authority who knows the particular details should be consulted.

Often, going for a cup of coffee or even inviting her to your house may be a better option.
