Removing Fire Detector on Shabbos

If a fire detector goes off because a battery is low in power, and it makes a very uncomfortable piercing/deafening noise. Can the fire detector be removed to the garage or put in a draw on Shabbos /yomtov? The noise can damage a persons hearing.Very piercing.

Answer:

The fire detector may be moved to another location to avoid the noise.

There is another question of removing it from the wall, as generally attaching or removing items connected to a wall, involves the prohibition of building and demolishing on Shabbos. However, the standard detectors are easily removed by slightly twisting it out of its notch. In addition the detector must be removed from time to time to replace the battery etc.. In this instance the detector is not considered attached with permanence and may be removed on Shabbos.
