Question:
Can one open a bottle of wine with a corkscrew (like a screwdriver that one turns into the cork and then pulls the cork out) to remove a cork on Shabbos/Yomtov? if so, is any particular way best? Wine taste better when opened right away not the day before.
Answer:
It is permissible to open bottles with a corkscrew on Shabbos and Yom Tov.
Must the foil surrounding the cork be removed before Shabbos? I would assume there would be an issue of mocheh if there is writing on the foil. Assuming one was careful not to tear a letter, would it be permissible to remove it?
Besdies for letters you also have to be careful not to ruin any pictures that have meaning, such as a logo picture. etc.
