Unclothed outside the bathroom

Question:

Hi,

If I am not mistaken, one should refrain from being completely unclothed outside of the bathroom. However, I am wondering in my own situation if this applies. After showering (especially in the summer months when it’s hot everywhere – no central air conditioning) my body needs to cool down and, to avoid excess perspiration, I need to remain unclothed for a small amount of time afterwards (maybe 5-10 minutes). However, this cannot be done in the bathroom since it is still “steamy” from the shower just taken. What I have done until now is put on a robe while still in the bathroom, wear the robe while walking to my bedroom, lock the door, take off the robe and “air out” for those 5-10 minutes to let my body dry completely in an effort to avoid sweating that can and often has caused skin irritation from not being fully dry. Is that permissible?

Thanks!

Answer:

The way of dressing and dress code is part of the package of being an observant Jew. An entire simon in the Shulchan Oruch is devoted to The Laws Of Getting Dressed. Understandably there are a places that a person is allowed to be undressed e.g. bathroom, mikveh etc. Noways it is common practice that people get dressed and undressed in their bedroom, so therefore you should be able to “air out” there. Never the less It would be appropriate not to stand there completely exposed
