Question:
If an audio (or computer) system was setup before candle lighting on Friday to continuously play shiurim over Shabbos (or part thereof), would it be permitted to listen to them? Clearly, it would not be tampered with. Would it make a difference if it was placed on a timer?
Answer:
It should not be done, even if it was done before shabbos. This is because we are not allowed to use electronic machines that make noise on shabbos, it is called "avsha milsa", and considered a zilzul for the shabbos. Doing this on a shabbos clock will not help, or it would be even worse because it isn't the norm to set shiurim on a shabbos clock, and therefore it would appear as if it was turned on during the shabbos.
