Question:

The lessor received payment from the lessee of $260 when the charge (beknowen to the lessee) was $257, does change need to be returned?

Answer:

It depends when the money was given. If the money was paid late then it would be ribbis and it should be returned. If the payment wasn’t late, and you are sure that the lessee knew that he is paying extra, then you can assume that the lessee doesn’t care about the change and you don’t haveto return it.

Best Wishes
